This Note, reprinted from OR/MS Today, Vol. 15, December 1988, reviews the development of operations research and systems analysis at The RAND Corporation for the two decades after its founding in 1948.

This report is part of the RAND Corporation Note series. The note was a product of the RAND Corporation from 1979 to 1993 that reported other outputs of sponsored research for general distribution.
