About CAPP

The RAND Center for Asia Pacific Policy (CAPP) brings multidisciplinary, analytic, and regional expertise to the key policy issues of the Asia Pacific. CAPP’s mission is to improve policy by providing decisionmakers and the public with rigorous and objective research on critical policy challenges facing Asia and U.S.-Asia relations.

CAPP's research falls into two key areas:

  • Business strategy issues, including market drivers, currency, regulatory trends, and risk analysis issues.
  • Development issues, including infrastructure planning, infrastructure security, design of efficient networks, capital markets, and environmental issues.

To expand the circle of people knowledgeable about important issues facing the Asia-Pacific policy community, CAPP sponsors a variety of educational events and distributes its publications widely.

We Make a Difference

CAPP's work addresses the most critical challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region. Drawing on our rigorous, impartial, and analytic capabilities, RAND experts have:

  • created new frameworks for U.S.-China policy
  • analyzed futures of the U.S.-South Korea alliance and for addressing North Korea's WMD
  • provided advice to Afghanistan on Islam in the new constitution
  • explored the impact of the information revolution on Asian societies
  • analyzed China's greatest economic challenges
  • examined nuclear proliferation in India and Pakistan
  • measured the impact of the financial crisis on Indonesia's most vulnerable citizens
  • suggested ways to address terrorist networks in Southeast Asia
  • assisted China by studying the use of market mechanisms for emission reductions
  • compared the rises of China and India
  • analyzed how South Korea can cope with the tech challenge from China
  • worked with think tanks from Japan, South Korea, China, and Russia to analyze paths for normalization of North Korea
  • projected geopolitical trends in Asia for coming decades.

Not only does our research reach the highest levels of government around the world, but private-sector clients have turned to us as well. We have advised numerous and varied organizations about political economic, social, and military affairs throughout the region.

Get Involved

RAND is a nonprofit organization that relies on philanthropic support to reach beyond the scope of client-sponsored work to tackle the questions that may be too big, too complex, or too new for our government clients to address. We offer a variety of ways for donors to get involved and make a difference through their support for RAND.

Your gift to the RAND Center for Asia Pacific Policy enables us to tackle the biggest issues facing the Asia-Pacific region and work to improve policy between the United States and countries in the region.
